Military Veterans. Do you know what it cost your employer to hire and keep you?
Your employer is fighting a battle. Not a battle with weapons, tanks and aircraft but a battle none-the-less. A battle to find, interview, hire, train and maintain top talent – and if you think for one second that is easy, guess again.
Glassdoor and the Society of Human Resources reports companies can spend anywhere between $4,000 – $7,000 per employee during the hiring process.
Military Transition Programs focus on you and strategies to market your hard-earned skill set; that is great however we want to give you a glimpse into what your employer is thinking. The bottom line is – your employer has a bottom line. They need to generate a profit, or they are not in business. Experienced employers are fully aware hiring the wrong person is a major setback in time, money, productivity and company morale. Bad employees can lower the standard and spread like cancer in any organization. (P.S. Don’t be “that” employee)

The hiring process is everything from posting jobs, reviewing applications and resumes, selecting the candidate, background checks… the list goes on. There is a hard cost in the form of dollars and hours of manpower that support the hiring process.
Dollars and Cents
It’s expensive to have an employee. As a rough estimate, an employee with an annual salary of $50,000 actually cost the company around $65,000. Employers have to pay taxes in multiple forms (social security tax, payroll tax and more). Additionally, employers often contribute to a benefits package.
Back to this bottom line. Yes – good companies, managers and leaders want to create a positive workplace environment and a lot do care about you as a person and your advancement. Comma, caveat, but…. they still have a business to run and a balance sheet that has to “add up”. Make your employer proud they are spending the money on you. Be “that” employee.
